I am Missi Shelton and I have been a lover of photography all of my life. Being Born and raised in Chattanooga, my Southern heritage is reflected in the way I run my business. I treat my clients like family, and I strive to combine my skill and talent with each event to provide the highest quality photographs at an affordable price. I specialize in seven categories of photography: weddings, engagements, maternity, newborns, birthdays, family and high school seniors. In addition to on-location shoots, I have designed a studio for capturing the amazing growth of the first year of life and beyond. I have hundreds of props, backdrops, and changing themes to make the most of my studio sessions. I am amazed how quickly children change in those first few years, and I enjoy capturing these phases of growth with quality photos to treasure for a lifetime.
Photography has always been my happy place. I was the proud owner of one of the first digital cameras with floppy disks. When my daughter was a baby, I remember spending hours dressing her and taking her picture. Several years later, when my son was a vivacious two-year-old, we vacationed at the beach. I was trying to capture his energy, and excited response to the beach, but each time I tried to take his picture he moved. The majority of my vacation shots were of the back of his head. With Christmas being a couple of months away, I knew I wanted pictures of his face showing his excitement. I purchased my first DSLR camera and knew from the first shot this is what I wanted to do. I began photographing events for people as a hobby, and from the encouragement I received from family and friends, I decided to make photography a business.
Memories by Missi was officially launched October of 2012, and I feel blessed to be doing something I love so much. I currently serve over 700 clients in the Chattanooga and surrounding area, and my client retention rate is over 85%. My clients become my family and I love watching their families grow. My goal is to always provide my clients with a budget friendly way to preserve those memories that are gone in a flash. I feel as Robert Frank did, “When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” Photography is an art form and I constantly work to improve my skills and techniques.
Photography is not a job, it’s an adventure. You are challenged with capturing history before it is made. Above all, photography should make you feel. It transports us back to that moment in time when we were at the alter, or when we first held our newborn baby – it helps us remember. In remembering, we are allowed to revisit the joy of the moment which is beautiful.
I would appreciate the opportunity to work with you and look forward to hearing from you.
